History of the Mount Meru University

Backgrounnd of MMU

Mount Meru University, first established in 1962 as International Baptist Theological Seminary of Eastern Africa (IBTSEA), was to cater for the spiritual needs of the people of Eastern and Central Africa. IBTSEA has now been transformed into Mount Meru University (MMU).

During the past forty years, IBTSEA trained over 500 hundred Eastern and Central Africa Baptist pastors and church leaders. Currently, students come from major Christian denominations representing seven different countries within and outside the Eastern Africa region.

For forty years IBTSEA has met the spiritual needs of Christians in the region. In 2002, the institution embarked on meeting the intellectual and social needs of the region. The Higher Education Accreditation Council granted Mount Meru University a Certificate of Provisional Registration (CPR) in September of 2003, and the Certificate of Full Registration, in July 2005.
