Student Affairs
The department of
Students Welfare and Development is headed by the Dean of Students
who coordinates all the sections of the department and represents
the department in the University management, Senate and all other
relevant organs of the University. Among the services offered by the
department include;
Coordination of students activities [Students' organization,
Associations, clubs, welfare societies],
Liaison with Chaplain on matters of students' spiritual development,
Games and sports, International students services, Work study and
Vocational placement of needy students,
Career guidance, Students' counseling services, Inter-University
students' programs, Orientation programs, gender issues.
Coordination of Students' Health Insurance Scheme and other health
services.
Identification of needy students for award of scholarships,
Coordination of University students' community service programs,
Management of University Halls of residence, Provision of oversight
on students' catering services, Administration of student's code of
conduct and discipline among others.
STUDENT SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES
1. Housing
Mount Meru University has a limited number of student houses and
dormitories. First priority will be given to:
(i) Students with disablities
(ii) International students,
(iii) First year students who will have paid their fees.
It is required of every resident student to always maintain
cleanliness in and around their houses in the students’ village. The
Office of the Dean of Students will conduct regular inspection for
cleanliness and safety, and those who fail to meet the required
standard will be penalized.
2. Students’ Union -”M.M.U.S.U.”
The main purpose of the “Mount Meru Student Union” (M.M.U.S.U.) is
to promote fellowship and cooperation among students, staff and
faculty.
It organizes special activities of prayer, worship, recreation,
entertainment and gives assistance to students in distress. It works
closely with the University administration and faculty to
communicate matters that affect the welfare of all the students and
enhance the life of the institution.
3. Devotional Life
Chapel: Each student is encouraged to attend Chapel services which
are held according to Semester schedules posted on the notice
boards..
Local Church Membership: Each Christian student is encouraged to
attend worship service every Sunday in a church in the ARUSHA area.
During the first and last year of residence at the University,
attendance is required at the campus chapel for students in the
Faculty of Theology. Other students are encouraged to attend worship
service during their time of study at the University. In case their
sanctuaries are not found in the ARUSHA area, they are free to
worship anywhere within the neighbourhood.
4. Recreation
During their enrolment at the University, students are required to
engage in at least one sport or game. Mount Meru University has
fields designated by the administration for such games as football,
volleyball, basketball and tennis, and the students are free to use
these facilities for such purposes. A student may ask for other
equipment for recreation from the Dean of Student’s office such as
indoor games e.t.c.
5. Health Matters
A clinic is maintained on campus for the benefit of the University
community. The working days and hours will be posted. A minimum
charge will be determined for each visit by the administration. A
Health Insurance Scheme is provided with a preferred MMU Health
insurance.
6. Domestic Animals
No animal of any kind is allowed in the student village.
7. Immigration Regulations
Each non-Tanzanian student is required to apply for and acquire the
Residence Permit from the Tanzania Government before he/she can be
allowed to officially stay for studies at the University. It is the
responsibility of every non-Tanzanian student to ensure that he/she
is in acceptable immigration status at all times he/she is in
residence.
8. Standards of Conduct
It is not permitted for a student to use tobacco, alcoholic
beverages, or drugs on the University Campus.
Each student is required to have a copy of MMU Student BY-LAWS. It
contains important information needed by each student, covering
various areas of student life at the University.Students should read
and understand the Student By-Laws provided.
